The world’s most dangerous rap group has finally been inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. The group was inducted on Friday, April 8th at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. The ex-bandmates were reunited on stage along with Eazy-E’s mother, Kathie Wright, who accepted the award on behalf of her son. Compton native and Grammy Award winning rapper Kendrick Lamar honored N.W.A. with a speech praising the group’s legacy. Kendrick gave each group member individual admiration ending with the legendary Eazy-E.
“Last but not least, the legendary, the late great Eric “Eazy-E” Wright. He was a true mastermind. A business man, an incredible entertainer.” Lamar goes on to add that Eric Wright is the reason that he is proud to stand on the Brooklyn Barclays Center stage and represent Compton. Dr.Dre gave his personal acknowledgment to Eazy; he stated, “One of the first people to invest in my talent.” Ice Cube says that the group’s mark is now solidified. He feels that it is exciting that the group is recognized by the entire industry as Hall of Fame worthy.N.W.A. was known for their controversial music, and not many would have imagined the group would be accepting such an honorable award for musical excellence. Nevertheless, anything is possible. Dr. Dre had some powerful words for kids who are chasing their dreams even though odds may be against them. “This is proof to all the kids, growing up in places similar to Compton, that anything is possible,” Dre said.
N.W.A. did not perform at the ceremony but O’Shea “Ice Cube” Jackson hints that the group might reunite at Coachella, a festival in California. “I’m gonna try to bring the members of N.W.A. together.” Surely, this is exciting news for all the die-hard N.W.A. fans. Congratulations to the men who brought their bold lyrics and sound to the world of hip-hop.
