The King is finally getting the proper honor for his significant contribution to hip-hop. Shakur will join the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The legendary MC is going to be inducted at the 2017 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, which will take place on April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Joan Baez, Pearl Jam, Yes, Journey, and Electric Light Orchestra will also be inducted at the ceremony. Tupac was nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this past October. Artists receive eligibility for induction 25 years after their first release. Pac’s debut album, 2Pacalypse Now was released in November 1991.
Makaveli is the sixth hip-hop act to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He joins Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and N.W.A. “as the hip-hop representatives” in the Hall.
Also, Tupac is the first solo hip-hop artist to join the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. However, fellow Hall of Famer Chuck D wasn’t too excited about Tupac getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame before LL Cool J.
“Got forever love for PAC BUT there AIN’T a solo rap act that should get in the RRHOF before LL Cool J. I don’t care about what naysayers think,” he said.
LL Cool J has been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the past but has never actually gotten inducted. Despite that, he is still a great hip-hop artist along with Tupac.
