Prodigy (born Albert Johnson) was one-half of Mobb Deep. The rapper died on June 20 in Las Vegas at the age of 42.
The cause of death is unknown at the time, but Prodigy had recently been hospitalized for complications from sickle cell anemia, a disease he had fought since birth.
Prodigy and Havoc (born Kejuan Muchita) formed Mobb Deep, and during the mid-1990s, the New York duo made their mark in hip-hop with their hardcore raps.
Many hip-hop pioneers took to social media to share memories and condolences to the late rapper.
The photo shows members of Mobb Deep, Nas, and Raekwon, who were collaborating on the track, “Eye for an Eye.”
