Nicki Minaj’s brother, Jelani Maraj has been found guilty of rape.
The 38-year-old was on trial for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl multiple times at his home in Long Island. Maraj was charged with the crime back in 2015. He was found guilty at Nassau County court in New York this week. Maraj is facing the potential of 25 years to life in prison.
Nicki Minaj (born Onika Tanya Maraj) nor her brother, Maraj testified in the trial. The child in the case is now 14. She and her younger brother testified.
The defense lawyer claimed the allegations were made up by the young girl’s mother to receive $25m from Nicki Minaj.
James R Ray III who represented the mother of the child briefly testified in court that he demanded a $25m legal settlement from Jelani Maraj after his arrest, but assisted that the girl’s mother was unaware of his demand.
“She was never involved as far as what we did,” Ray III said.
The mother of the child later fired Ray III as her attorney.
The sentencing for Maraj will be on Dec. 14.
According to his lawyer, he will appeal the judgment.
