Taraji P. Henson is set to star in an upcoming film based on Emmett Till. Till a 14-year-old African-American teenager from Chicago was kidnapped and brutally murdered by two white men in Mississippi in 1955.
The 47-year-old actress will play Till’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley. She decided to have her son’s casket open at his funeral. Till was mutilated in the murder making his face unrecognizable.
An all-white jury later acquitted the murderers, J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant. The two then confessed to the murder after the trial was over.
Henson’s production company TPH Productions will be producing the film. No date has been set as of yet on when the film will begin production.
