The father of icon Michael Jackson has died. According to TMZ, Joe Jackson passed away at a hospice in Las Vegas today at 3:30 A.M.
Jackson was hospitalized with terminal cancer in June. Katherine Jackson had been by her husband’s bedside along with some of his children and grandchildren.
In 2016, Jackson was taken to the hospital after coming down with a high fever. In 2015, his health became fragile after suffering a stroke and three heart attacks. Doctors implemented a pacemaker.
Jackson is known for helping his children reach success with their music. With the help of Diana Ross, the music careers of The Jackson 5, Michael Jackson, and Janet Jackson skyrocketed the Jackson kids to megastars. MJ, however, became the most successful.
The King of Pop along with his siblings often vocalized the abuse and harsh management practices they suffered from their father. This included physical brutality. The elder Jackson said his methods made his kids successful and kept them out of prison.
After the death of Michael, the icon’s father was criticized by the public for allegedly trying to make money off his son’s memory.
A representative for Michael’s estate says, “We are deeply saddened by Mr. Jackson’s passing and extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs. Katherine Jackson and the family. Joe was a strong man who acknowledged his imperfections and heroically delivered his sons and daughters from the steel mills of Gary, Indiana to worldwide pop superstardom.”
Jackson had ten children with his wife of more than 60 years.
He was 89-years-old when he passed.
