The 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards was a lituation. I always look forward to watching the BET Hip Hop Awards each year because it’s a night celebrating all things hip-hop.

On Oct.16, the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards celebrated the biggest stars representing for the culture.

Hosted by comedian and actor Deray Davis at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater, big names such as Cardi B, Lil Pump, Gucci Mane, and many more took the stage with amazing performances.

Along with artists gracing the stage, the BET Hip Hop Awards were filled with heartwarming speeches from musicians and of course, it wouldn’t be a hip-hop show without the cyphers. The cyphers featured rappers with unique sounds, but all dope in their own way.

Yours truly had to do it for the culture with my top five moments at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Check it out below:

1) Lil Wayne Receives I Am Hip Hop Award

I had to start with Weezy. Lil Wayne will go down as one of the best MC’s to ever do it.

The rapper has been in the game since I was a little girl and I’ve seen him evolve as an artist over the years by keeping up with the ever-changing sound of hip-hop.

During the award show, Weezy received the I Am Hip Hop Award. The legend was introduced by DJ Khaled and Bun B, along with Kendrick Lamar, 2 Chainz, and more.

Humbly accepting the award, Lil Wayne took the stage thanking everyone who has been there for him including fans and his Uncle Bob, who saved his life after attempting suicide by rushing Wayne to the hospital.

“This award, right here, I must give it to the people who refuse,” he said.

S/O to Wayne for winning the I Am Hip Hop Award. Well deserved!

2) Her Mic Sounds Nice: Female Rap Cypher

Give it up for the ladies! If you’ve been following CeeSoDope, then you already know how I feel about women in hip-hop. MC’s like Lil’ Kim, Roxanne Shante, Queen Latifah, and Lauryn Hill can rock the mic just as good if not better than some fellas in the game.

Big shout out to BET for the female rap cypher with Sharaya J, Chika, Neelam Hakeem, Bri Steves, and Erykah Badu, who also graced the ones and twos. I mean their bars speak for itself. Real talk the ladies held it down!

3) Cardi B Stay “Backin It Up”

Speaking of female MC’s, we have to mention Cardi B who is taking the world by storm right now, with hit after hit. Cardi B heated up the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards with “Get Up 10” and “Backin’ It Up” which she twerked her butt off too. Gotta love Cardi!

4) XXXTentacion Wins Best New Hip Hop Artist

XXXTentacion will be missed dearly by family, friends, and fans. Even though the emotional wounds of his murder in June have not healed for those who love him, the late rapper is still celebrated for his artistry.

XXXTentacion received the Best New Hip Hop Artist award during the show. However, what made the moment so special is when his mother Cleopatra Bernard accepted the award for her son in his honor.

“I wanna thank his fans for their undying support,” Bernard said. “Jah, this is for you, baby.”

Rest easy.

5) Anderson.Paak Honors Mac Miller

Last, but certainly NOT least, my last best moment of the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards is Anderson. Paak honoring Mac Miller. Miller passed on last month and Anderson. Paak honored the legacy of his late friend/collaborator with a eulogy giving his thoughts on Miller.

“Mac Miller was a brother, he was my friend,” Paak said. “I loved him, and I still love him,” he adds.
