During her debut on “Love & Hip Hop: Miami,” Chinese Kitty and her mother Chinese Nicky caught attention from viewers as being the mother and daughter duo that sticks together.
In an exclusive interview, Chinese Kitty discusses her music, being on a reality show with her mother, balancing parenthood and the entertainment lifestyle, plus more.
1)How did your gig on “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” come about?
My mom’s best friend was supposed to be filming for “Love & Hip Hop: Miami,” and they told her we’re missing the fun and exciting, pretty girl of Miami. My mom’s best friend was like, I have a friend, and she has a daughter with a lot of Instagram followers. From there, they loved our energy.
2) What is it like being on a reality television show with your mom?
I love it. I hate filming without her because we feed off each other’s energy. If she reacts off something, I react. It’s no awkwardness or anything.
3) How do you balance parenthood and being in entertainment?
When I’m not on set, I’m back into mommy mode. It’s not something that’s super easy, but I’m getting used to it. I’m doing this for him, so I can’t complain.
4) You had some issues with fellow cast member Shay Johnson. Where do you stand with Johnson now? Do you guys get along?
I have no drama at all, and my music is straight positive female energy. Everyone’s going to see the dope side of Kitty. It’s no drama, no fighting, no nothing, and I’m really happy about that, just focusing on the music.
5) What can fans expect from your EP As If?
I think people are going to be very shocked and have their mouths hanging open. Like Chinese Kitty made this? This is crazy. You’re going to get straight bars, singing, and real artistry.
6) What are your biggest inspirations when making music?
I think my biggest inspiration isn’t necessarily a topic. I think it’s for everyone who has something to say. I want to prove my point.
7) How do you plan to use “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” to leverage your career?
I don’t like to involve “Love & Hip Hop” with my music. I like to keep it very minimum because I’m doing more than hip-hop. I don’t need the streams of the show. I want to show people there’s another side of me that all of you never seen before.
8) Do you plan on dropping new videos any time soon?
Yes, I’m finishing up my “Purse” video. I’ll be dropping that this month, so I’m excited.
