Thanks to the streets of Queens, Phife Dawg’s name will never be forgotten. Fans are still mourning the loss of the Five-Foot Assassin, but now those who live in Queens will always have something to remember him by. The New York Mayor’s Office will co-name a portion of Linden Boulevard and 192nd Street in Queens, New York City after the late rapper.
Malik Taylor a.k.a. Phife Dawg’s management team revealed the news to Okayplayer.com via text.
“Just wanted to let everyone know that the New York Mayor’s Office just called me and said the mayor is signing the bill to co-name Linden Blvd @192 to Malik “Phife Dawg” Taylor way on 8/3 at 10 am at City Hall, Lower Manhattan.”
In “Check The Rhime” and “Steve Biko,” Phife referenced Linden Blvd so, the news of the street being co-named after him is a great honor in his memory. Taylor started A Tribe Called Quest with Kamaal Fareed a.k.a. Q-Tip. Phife passed away in March at the tender age of 45 from diabetes complications.
R.I.P. Phife! You will forever be in our hearts!
