The New Edition Story is about the legendary 1980s R&B boy group and follows the group-Ronnie DeVoe, Bobby Brown, Ricky Bell, Mike Bivins, Ralph Tresvant and Johnny Gill from the beginning of their career in Boston to global stardom, success, controversy, personal changes, and cost of fame. The cast includes Bryshere Y. Gray, Elijah Kelley, Luke James, Keith Powers, Algee Smith, and Woody McClain as the adult members of New Edition.
The biopic was executive produced by Jesse Collins of Real Husbands of Hollywood for JCE (Jesse Collins Entertainment) films, directed by Chris Robinson (ATL) and co-produced by Brooke Payne, Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie DeVoe, Johnny Gill, Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown.
The New Edition Story biopic pulls in record ratings with Parts 1 and 3 of the biopic. The New Edition Story is “the network’s highest-rated and most watched telecasts in five years” since the premiere of Season 5 of The Game in 2012.
Part 1 had 3.3MM viewers; Part 2 drew in 5.6 MM viewers, Part 3 pulled in 3.3MM viewers. The New Edition Story aired on BET for three consecutive nights from Tuesday-Thursday, Jan.24-26. Overall, the biopic drew in 29 million viewers during premiere week. This includes premiere telecasts and encores on BET and Centric. The miniseries on BET alone grossed 15.7 million viewers.
According to sources, BET also ranked as the most social network on television all three nights on Jan 24-26. Also, The New Edition Story was the #1 most social episode on Facebook and Twitter all three nights.
