On Monday, January 7, a press conference was held for 12-year-old rapper Corey Jackson after being detained by police on Oct.6. Alongside him for support was Attorney M. Davis, his mother Laura Johnson, father Cornell Jackson, Lil Boosie, and several community leaders. The young MC who also goes by Corey J. or Lil C-Note was selling cd’s inside of Cumberland Mall when a Cobb County police officer approached him.
In the video that went viral on social media, Jackson’s aunt can be heard defending her nephew while the officer is holding the 12-year-old by the arm. In result of the incident, Jackson received a complaint form with four charges including felony obstruction, misdemeanor obstruction, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.
During the press conference, Jackson’s attorney, parents, and Lil Boosie gave their thoughts on the incident, how they will move forward with attempting to clear the rapper’s record, and bridging the gap between law enforcement and the community.
